Dr Misbah Hussain
Assistant Professor of Biotechnology | Head, CGeM Research Group
Department of Biotechnology, University of Sargodha

Biography
Dr Misbah Hussain is an Assistant Professor of Biotechnology at the University of Sargodha and Head of the Cardiometabolic Genetics and Metabolism (CGeM) Research Group. Her research examines the genetic and molecular foundations of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension and metabolic disorders, with a focus on genetic susceptibility, gene–lifestyle interactions and pharmacogenetics.
She holds a PhD in Biotechnology from the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS). In 2018, she completed a six-month research fellowship at the University of Glasgow through the Higher Education Commission’s International Research Support Initiative Programme (IRSIP), working in cardiovascular and vascular biology.
At the University of Sargodha, her work investigates genetic variation in hypertension risk and responses to antihypertensive medicines. She leads an HEC-funded National Research Programme for Universities project on pharmacogenetic determinants of treatment response.
Alongside research, Dr Misbah is committed to postgraduate mentoring, biomedical research capacity and public understanding of genetics, lifestyle and environmental factors in cardiometabolic health. Her work aims to generate population-specific evidence relevant to prevention and precision medicine; these research goals are not claims of a clinically validated diagnostic or treatment service.
